She's here!

Scarlett Eve Valdes was born Saturday, February 17th at 10:34 AM. She was 8 lbs, .02 oz and 20 inches long!!

It was a pretty awful labor, for both of us... I went into labor Thursday night, got sent home, and then at noon the next day realized that this was serious!! I waited until Juan got home from work and then we went to the hospital around 3:00 PM. I was in pretty heavy labor from then until she was born the next morning. Not very fun!

I ran a pretty bad (and unexplainable) temperature while in labor, I think I peaked at around 102 degrees. Because of this, the baby was wisked away to the nursery for observation. Luckily she does not have any signs of infection, but she does have jaundice, so they're keeping her under the blue lights. It's hard (hard being a mild term, it's the most awful thing I've ever experienced) being home without her but I know she's getting good care and hopefully she can come home soon. Meanwhile, Juan and I have pretty much moved into the hospital, complete with my US weeklys and his sci-fi novels.

We'll post pictures, of course, but we're pretty busy going back and forth between home and the hospital. Please stay tuned and keep Baby Scarlett, Juan and I in your thoughts and prayers.

Congrats! I am thinking of you, knowing how hard it must be to be away from your bundle, but yes, rest assured that she is getting good care and getting what she needs. Hope she can come home soon. We are keeping you in our thoughts and can't wait to see some pictures.

I think I've showed everyone I know pictures of Scarlett. Im such a proud auntie it's embarassing! I got a little emotional reading shana's comment, I think it had something to do with all the love, love, loves. My uterus hurts.

Welcome Baby Scarlett! I am so sorry that things were not smooth. Love her every minute they let you, she'll know you are there and she'll know you love her. Our little one was under the lights for 12 hours and I thougt that was bad...not so as it would seem. I hope she can come home soon. Take good care of eachother and know you are thought of often.
XOXO

It was not the labor and delivery you had envisioned, but the end result is a beautiful baby girl that looks just like you only with black hair just long enough for a cute little clip. I'm just so proud of you fighting through it and of the wonderful mother you've become. I think I'll take some of the credit. :) love u & Scarlett....nana

Congratulations on your sweet baby, Scarlett Eve. I love the name!!! Sorry for all the drama and pain, but really, how could it be anything different coming from you, right, Cari?? Just a side note: We had a little baby born here in July and he was in the hosp. for at least a week with the same problem as Scarlett and you should see him now...he's very healthy and quite the little porker...so, hang in there. Hope you will all be home together soon, if you're not already. Good thoughts going your way. Hope to see you all soon. Love, Chloe's grammy...so, kind of a grammy 'once removed', right? :):):)
